Found a 1980 Sport 4x4 stepside

I do a lot of driving and stumbled upon a 1980 4x4 Sport. I don't know if it is for sale but it is sitting. I noticed the front bumper first then saw it had the sport hood emblem. This is the second one that I have found locally that sitting

The '79 reminds me of the old Fly-N-Hi Stepside from back in the eighties. I might have to dig out some old pictures and compare the two. With the extra side mirror it would appear that it was once a very tall truck.

It could be the Fly-N-Hi truck. I do live in Phoenix. It definitely was a show truck at one point!

The 80 looks good ....would not be hard to put it back to factory.
I have a 2wd in the same color with original paint.

not the fly-n-hi truck but a similar paint job, the fly-n-hi truck had an orange cab and a white bed. I sometimes wonder what happened to all these big trucks that were covered with chrome. i think some of them are sitting in garages somewhere waiting to be rediscovered.

Re: Found a 1980 Sport 4x4 stepside

The pictures I have of the fly-n-hi truck are when it was being worked on so you cannot see the front end it was in the shop. They are on film so I will have to scan them into the computer, I'll scan and post them when I get a chance. It was a pretty neat truck circa 1985.

Very cool! I actually have had some friends that worked there over the years but not in the 80s

Nice finds... I wonder what year was the truck they used in the Rockford Files (James Garner)?

Chaplin, Rockford Files truck was a 1975 GMC K1500 Sierra Classic. I believe it was his dads truck.

Yep I remember that particular truck but in addition to the Firebird there was also a 4x4 step side featured...I think.

Re: Found a 1980 Sport 4x4 stepside

There was indeed a step side in CHIPS. I thought I had made a mistake by thinking about that truck. However, in one or some of the later Rockford Files, there actually was a step side truck.
