1978 Chevrolet Cluster?

I have a question about the instrument cluster in my 1978 Chevrolet c30, it has the warning(dummy) lights instead of the 4 gauges that are in the 4 holes to the left of the 2 main gauges(speedometer & fuel). Can anyone tell me if the clusters interchange. Bottom line is that I have the instrument cluster with the warning lights in it and I want to change it to a cluster that has the 4 gauges(temp, volt, fuel, etc) and a factory tach. Are the wiring harnesses different or can I buy a cluster and plug it up and it work? If not what does it take to be able to put a factory tach cluster in my truck? Thanks for any help!

Re: 1978 Chevrolet Cluster?

I did that,in my 78

there is a bit of wire swapping in the cluster plug and senders need to be changed,
I had to add another ground, any questions just ask.
the hardest part seemed to be finding the cluster.
the idiot cluster does not fit the factory gauges,
there is the aftermarket option to have a tach/fuel gauge, requires some case mods.

not to hi-jack but i have a 76 with gauges and it has a manual oil pressure gauge. Never have seen that before. is it factory? The printed circuit looks legit.

Re: 1978 Chevrolet Cluster?

73-76 have capillary tube mechanical oil pressure gauges.
76 has the volt gauge with mechanical oil pressure. 73-75 has an ammeter.
77-80 have electric oil and volt gauge.
There are several different varieties of warning lamps ranging from none or 1, not sure, to 4 ( 2 in the bottom of each large gauge )
