Here's a link to some information on this swap using an NP 205 transfer case and the NV4500. Not sure what you have in mind for a transfer case.

Hi ljbear,
Thanks for the reply. I don't have the truck yet, but if I end up with a 4-speed rig I plan on going 5-speed. Did the shifter line up with the original hole in the floor? So from what I have read it sounds like advanced adapters has almost everything I would need to do the job. The transfer case most likely would be the stock 205, so I will have to bore out the housing for the larger barrings of the 32 spline shaft. I already have evperiance with driveshaft modifications so thats not too bad. Around how much did it run you to do this? Thanks, Erik

Erik,
Advance has everything to do the swap, and for some of the parts they are the only choice. Starting at the front you can find a used bell housing that will save a bunch of money over the one Advance makes. If you can find a 205 that was behind a Turbo 400 you will probably save $500 less the cost of the transfer case. The new input for the 205 and having the case bored was about $500. I found a used transmission and had it completely gone through with all new bearing and I have about $1600 in that. The adapters and brackets are about $600. My swap cost a bit more as I was using the newer flywheel and the hydraulic clutch. Everything involved I think I have about $3000 in it. I'd have to open up my Excel document on the truck to get the actual total, but I don't really like doing that, especially when my wifes home.

I've got an SM465, and I was contemplating this swap. After I drove it for a while, though, I realized that GM did a pretty good job with selecting the rear gears on this, and it actually does pretty nice on the highway. I've got 3.08s in the rear, and I figured it would take more miles than I ever plan to drive to pay back this switch. Just my two cents! Brian |
