EBAY '50 Chev milk truck

Not mine, but would make a cool motorhome or work van. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Ot...m=201457715596

Re: EBAY '50 Chev milk truck

I certainly have an appreciation for all finishes, show to patina. But it astonishes me when someone refers to a 1950 Milk Truck that hasn't likely seen new paint since the St. Louis assembly line as, "Rat Rod Patina Chevy". Talk about salesmanship! Not a bad price though. Cheers, Jim

Re: EBAY '50 Chev milk truck

Rat rod patina is the new value added finish as far as the belief of the make a buck off the old truck rubes brigade's line of thinking goes.

The truck actually looks pretty solid but it's 860 miles from me one way.

It sure would make a nice little camper/tow rig though.

They didn't have the 235 motor in the trucks in '50, I believe they were the 216's. Otherwise a cool truck.

I agree, that thing could almost lay on the ground with bags and still not fit through a garage door

It bothers me that decades of total neglect and even metal rot (cancer) is given a label like "patina".

To me, patina does exist but it's the vehicles (like my Dad's purchased-new '55 Chevy 2 door hardtop Belair) that has been polished through to the primer on edges and even large panels because it is the original or a high quality repaint that has been so consistently maintained and cared for that it shows.

If I ever bought a car/truck with what the call patina today and I could not afford to repaint it, I'd repair the rot and treat this kind of paint condition to CLR, then color sand and polish it to bring out the best possible appearance of the remaining paint. THAT I'd be proud to own, not some rusted-to-hell finish.

Apologies I suppose to those that like rusted-to-hell finishes.

Re: EBAY '50 Chev milk truck

Given the guy selling it is a flipper of classics his prices are usually jacked up. All that stuff in his yard if expensive as he's grabbing all the good stuff to resell. I wish the old trucks weren't as main stream and only true lovers of the old stuff bought them instead of these middlemen. Puts most of the classics that were cheap from the farm owners, out of reach now except to guys back east who pay big $ for rust it seems lol

There's still plenty of people back east who know what it really costs to fix rust. The question is how much rust is too much?

Re: EBAY '50 Chev milk truck

"The question is how much rust is too much?" Depends how bad you want it. For example.... I just spent 24 hours repairing rust (12 patches) and damage to my left rear fender because it was the best I could find and couldn't see my way to spend $900 for a repop including shipping.

Re: EBAY '50 Chev milk truck

If you want a more reasonable price here's another over that way. Been for sale for months now so should go for $1000-1500. They aren't worth the $4g price some try to get lol

Re: EBAY '50 Chev milk truck

I'd have to go along with Dubds10 in that guy in Idaho with the truck that is the subject of the original post is a flipper who tries to get top dollar out of what he has and now it appears that he is buying trucks and trying to flip them without even hauling them home. As in buy it from one of us, say he will send someone after it and then post it on Ebay in hope he makes a couple thousand without ever laying a hand on it.

The other one Dubbs10 posted isn't that far from me but I don't have the cash right now to buy another project. That one is about 190 miles from me.
