Re: need tailgate installation tricks
no tricks, First you need two people one per side carefully hold the pinion/pivot roller in the pocket and then both you you slowly and carefully palce the pivot in the right spot and incert the bolts. trying to do this by yourself will get the paint scratched.

Re: need tailgate installation tricks
I just installed mine today. It took 3 people. As long as your bedsides aren't welded to the rear sill and no other crossmembers are attached except at the front it can be done this way . I mounted the trunnions on the bedsides and removed the bolts from one bedside at the rear sill. Then we swung the bedside out installed the TG on the trunnion on the other bedside then swung the loose bedside back in and engauged the trunnion. Put the TG in the up position and tightened the bolts on the rear sill. i also put masking tape on the adjacent areas for a little insurance.

still not really clear about the process but some tape will a good precaution. grease on the trunnion might help... seems like it would start at the top of the bedsides and that the strap on the trunnion would fit in the notches and slide down. gate up or down best? or 3/4 open? has to drop level? need some help because this is the kind of stuff that murphy wrote his law about. and i'm not feeling all that lucky today. thanks for any suggestions... |

Re: need tailgate installation tricks
I installed mine before paint by myself. I put it in the open position and angled it down and engauged one trunnion that was already bolted in. Then put the trunnion in the other side of the TG and slid it straight down. If it was painted I would have scratched the heck out of it. I really don't have a solution here. Sorry. Maybe someone else has done it.

Re: need tailgate installation tricks
I cut two rectangular pieces out of a milk carton and made them to fit the round mounts. Put them in the tail gate and then mounted it. Keeps from scratching the paint and also helps keep them from rattling.
