Spray in bed liner with bondo :(

I've been thinking of getting line x sprayed in my truck. Only problem is once I looked closer, the bed has some bondo in the edges and corners.. Do you think its ok to spray over it? Will it look like a sloppy mess?!

Here's a pic.

That looks like the factory seam sealer they use.

Never knew such existed. What would you do, spray away or sink money into that then spray?

Seam sealer just like this. I would scrape loose stuff and put some more on... Or have them do it.

Re: Spray in bed liner with bondo :(

You can reapply the seam sealer. The shop doing the liner should know better if it needs it or not though. Is it my imagination or is there already work sort of coating on there?

Whether it is Bondo or seam sealer, should be fine to spray line-x over. The only thing you don't want line-x over is rust. . .

How much do you think a shop would charge me for them to fix all of it? Where can I buy this at anyways? I might give it a shot. And yes, it has I'm guessing the rustoleium? brand roll on. Complete junk, no texture basically just black paint.

Your going to need to get a quote from a shop. No one will guarantee their work with the roll on liner in place. They will want to strip your bed, then apply their product to clean metal.

Yep I knew that was coming! I wonder if somewhere you can rent a blaster and get it off yourself. The stuff is pitiful I could almost scrap it off with my finger nail. During the summer when I got a load of mulch I used a metal snow shovel so scoop it out and you can see the shovel scrap marks in it. Is it worth my time getting it off and placing new seam sealer?

Re: Spray in bed liner with bondo :(

You can use a bucket style sand blaster and remove it if you have a good size compressor. I would get an estimate first and go from there. Let the professional installer tell you whats best.

Re: Spray in bed liner with bondo :(

I think that's a good place to start as well. I'll see what they say and go from there. I've been looking at liners forever and I'd like to get one soon. Thanks for the tips and info - Zach

Line-X DA's the surfaces to be coated w/80 grit. Rust must be gone as well as moisture. Depending on your local Line-X dealer, they might seam seal if necessary. They did my entire floor/tubs today (seam sealed) before spraying but it adds hours to the process as they want it dry before coating.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Long bed, under the rail, & UV top-coat was < 8bills. I did use a referral/discount coupon & did some labor in the parking lot for them. They squeezed me in on short notice because I needed it done ASAP (exposed metal on the floor, expecting bad weather mid week, & I now have to use my dually as my primary transport). I didn't have a good weekend....

Thanks, I'm hoping to get a quote soon. Hope you enjoy it and it holds up well! It's that time of the year again, snowy coldness.
