Yes you are correct. PO box counts as a address.

To be legal you would need to do a frame swap as well. There are VIN numbers on the frame that match the cab VIN. If these get checked for any reason and they dont match you are in for a big can o worms.

Re: California Smog Purgatory...

There are so many technicalities involved, But i have personally experienced DOT doing a complete inspection and they were more concerned with registered GVW and safety than frame/cab vins matching...They do run them, but if nothing comes back "goofy" about either...then no red flags go a flyin!

...and if you own both vins, there's nothing to worry about. People do frame swaps ALL the time.

Not everyone will have this same luck. Depending on who does the inspection some will be more picky than others.

Frame swaps are done all the time but just because you own both VINs doesnt mean its a free for all. The DMV will need to verify BOTH VINs. Every situation is going to be different.

Re: California Smog Purgatory...

It`s so much easier and less red tape to just get a PO box in Humbolt Co or other counties that doent require inspections. I doi happen to have a address i can use but have friends who have PO boxes in Humbolt CO and have never had a issue and actually have never even seen their PO box.
