Does anyone know of an aftermarket mfg. that makes the tailgate hinges/supports (similar to the ones used on the fleetside.
Im trying to eliminate the chains as a gate support.

Re: stepside tailgate hinge

I've seen aircraft cable swaged with stainless hooks that looked really clean. Or if you can find someone to teach you, even wire splice the ends.

Not aftermarket, but here's a post where they used Nissan hangers. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...5&postcount=13

Re: stepside tailgate hinge

Here's how I did my 68 stepside tailgate utilizing Stealth latches from CPP and either Nissan or S-10 pickup cables. The cables are only about $20 but you have to be willing to do a little cutting and patching.

Re: stepside tailgate hinge

I like both ideas!!!

I have the hidden latches on my existing tailgate and will move them to the new tailgate---but didnt know what would work for supports.

Good ideas guys---------anyone else have something different that youre using?? I like seeing all step bed ideas.
I finally got started on mine, have a lot of it apart---bout time to do fabrication changes before any primer goes on.

1954-1987 Chevy GMC Truck Stepside Tailgate Hinge Trunnion "Patent pending"
Ultimate Hinge Trunnion (4 Piece Set) made of Stainless Steel/Delrin replacement part!
Made in USA!

These are very quiet while opening and closing the tailgate. See the pictures

My product was mentioned on the Hotrod network magazine, on-line. Silent 'Gate.
hotrod.com
new-classic-truck-products
Also mentioned in Classic Truck magazine Feb 2016 issue, released on the stands Nov 20th 2015. Check them out! Thanks

Available on my Website: tdtrunniondesign.com

Also Available on Ebay right NOW!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171718930810...84.m1555.l2649

These are hinge trunnion replacement parts to upgrade your Chevy Stepside Truck.
The Trunnions are manufactured from Delrin and 303 stainless steel.

I have a picture listed of the replacement trunnions that are zinc plated which will still rust on your truck. I also show the original trunnion that was removed and has rusted and made that awful sound while opening and closing the tailgate. You can reuse your bolts and lock washers, but would recommend you use stainless steel bolt and lock washer. Be sure to use an antilock lube when reinstalling your Trunnions, prevent bolt lock! Just remove the bolt with lock washer, replace with these stainless steel hinge trunnions and bolt back on your truck just in reverse of how you removed it from the truck.

No more greasing the trunnion, No more rusting, No more noise with a huge improvement, smooth opening and closing of your tailgate! You'll love it!

Free shipping USPS in 50 states.

Material used:

Delrin is a Acetal AF blend, supplied as a 2:1 blend of Acetal AF-100 and Acetal 150 resins, has excellent sliding/friction properties. Bearings made of Acetal AF blend can operate at higher speeds while exhibiting reduced wear. These bearings are also essentially free of slip-stick behavior because the static and dynamic coefficient of friction are closer than with most plastics. Acetal AF blend retains 90% of the strength that is inherent in unmodified Acetal.

303 Stainless Steel is very similar in properties to that of 304 Stainless Steel, However 303 has an addition of sulfur for better machining characteristics. 303 Stainless Steel is Corrosion resistant to temperatures of 1500 Degrees or more. It is used in screw machines, food processing equipment, marine applications, and some aerospace application.
