76 stepside steal
I found this stepside 76 in Austin for 1500, talked the guy down to 900 and towed her home.
The Specs: 250 i6 motor 3 on the tree (solid linkage, not sloppy!) stepside bed with original wood (rotted) a few dents and dinks on the fenders/bed, 3 bigger dents on the rear cab. new battery original radiator sliding window It has a little bit of rust on the passenger rocker and on the passenger front of the hood, but the rest of the truck is real solid It runs, but the previous owner screwed up trying to replace brake lines, so I got to fix that before she can stop. She is from California and was owned by a original owner until 2011. Then the previous owner bought it and drove it to Texas where it has been sitting for the last 2 years. He lost interest in it and I had to grab it! I have a 76 fleetside that I have been restoring and my wife would kill me if I kept this one, so for now I'm gonna clean it up a bit and get her on the road and see if I make some money on and keep the patina look. But I got this disease that wants to keep this sucker and have 2 76 c10s in the garage. hahah anyways wanted to share my excitement! Do you guys think I got a pretty good deal? What do you think it's worth (I'm a subscribing member ?

Re: 76 stepside steal
I bought a 74 several years a go with the intention to drive it until my 72 was done and then sell it .I still have it , one farmer owned with 59,000 miles ,6 cylinder ,3 on the tree and I named him Clarence after the original owner .I got mine in very similar condition from the farmers barn where I had been watching it for 20 years and paid $600 for it but I am friends with the grandson and I think he knew I would keep it .I think you did good and another one is saved.

Re: 76 stepside steal
I saw that truck within minutes of it being listed and tried and tried to get a hold of the guy with no luck. I wanted it and was ready to make the 4hr trip to get it. I'm glad someone here got it. I've got a white step side rear bumper that WAS going look good on it.

Re: 76 stepside steal
In 2010 I paid 1600 for my truck here in CA. The paint was a lot nicer, and it had just passed smog...so I think yours was a fair price...I am sure your wife thinks you are nuts.

Re: 76 stepside steal
great truck, great price, great score! I'm in California and I will say Day 1, you fix the breaks so that people can test drive it and it's already worth twice what you paid, so $1,800 ha ha
what hurts its value here in the land of Regulations is that you missed the cut off by 1 year, you see 1975 and older trucks and they leave you alone, 1976 and newer and you have to get the SMOG tested every 2 years, PIA so if this was a 1975 Step Side I would pay $2,500 for it, it being only a six banger hope this info helps, I am just being honest and realistic for you |

Re: 76 stepside steal
If your just looking to flip it, I would just get it mechanically sound, good brakes, lower it, throw some wheels on it and maybe clean up what paint is left and smooth out the rust, ditch the rear bumper and try to find a white "sport bumper". People are paying big bucks trying to recreate the look it already has.

Re: 76 stepside steal
I dig it! I also have a stepside beater/driver. It's a fun truck, and when they're cheap you can enjoy em! Plus, yours is a three on the tree, so no one will want to borrow it!
