Re: Wires beside heater under hood.
Do they go to a three prong plug? If so that was the engine harness.

Yes, that looks like what's left of the engine harness.
Should be a 6-prong plug with 1 or 2 spots left unused (depending on whether or not the truck was wired for factory gauges or warning lights). |

Re: Wires beside heater under hood.
Definately an engine harness. I had a problem with mine in the 90's while camping. Dang thing came loose and my truck wouldnt start. I now have it glued on with w/strip adhesive. Problem solved.

Re: Wires beside heater under hood.
Those wires go to the starter and the coil also. With the I6 the water temp wire might be there as well.....don't quite remember for sure.

Re: Wires beside heater under hood.
The factory 60-66 Chevy engine wiring harness has:
* A multi colored cloth covered resistance wire going to the starter solenoid R terminal. And then a green or yellow (depending on the year) wire running from the R terminal up to the + coil terminal. * A dark green wire for the "HOT" light (warning light cluster) or for the temp gauge sending unit (gauge cluster). * A light green wire for the "COLD" light (warning light cluster) or a black wire going to the large "BAT" stud on the starter solenoid for one leg of the ammeter circuit (gauge cluster). * A purple wire going to the starter solenoid S terminal. * A dark blue wire for the "OIL" light (warning light cluster). The wire colors and connections are the same for either L6 or V8 engines. But the wire lengths and routing are different. |
