Road trip question, rear end and transmission fluid type
Hey y'all, I'm getting ready for a long drive in my new to me 64 GMC long bed 1/2 ton 4X4. I'm going to check fluids this morning before taking off. I'm guessing 90W gear oil in the rear end? Same for transmission and transfer case? It's running an 350 engine with stock running gear.
Thanks |

Re: Road trip question, rear end and transmission fluid type
I am guessing the front and rear differential, manual 4 speed transmission and the transfer case all take 80/90 gear oil?

yes, any GL 4 or 5 probably only find GL 5 75-80 or 90

Re: Road trip question, rear end and transmission fluid type
If you are using 90W in the transmission, you need to make sure it is safe for "yellow metals". The yellow metals would be your synchronizers. Some of the high end 90W will be safe, but many are not.
