Looking for info on a '66

I'm looking at a pretty good '66 project. He says its a "camper special" with the stock 327 cu. I thought all the V8s were 283 back then. Does he know what he is talking about? slim

The camper specials had 327's. I think that was the first year for it and they also had TH400 auto trans if it has an automatic. The Camper Special is also a 3/4 ton. Might even have power drum brakes. I am guessing it does since you had to stop the extra weight of a camper.

The first year for camper special was 1973. Late 1965 was the first custom camper the last year was 1972.

Ok. Dum question. Don't know much about these. The 327 still a small block, just more stroke, or more bore?

Re: Looking for info on a '66

A small block Chevy is everything from a 262 to a 400. Just different bores and strokes. A 283 has a 3.875" bore and a 3" stroke. A 327 has a 4" bore and a 3.250" stroke. A 327 will produce more HP and TQ than a 283. The first year for the 327 in the light duty trucks was 1966.

Yup they do ... I had a stock 327 with a Rv cam and a pair of 64cc 202 . 160 camel hump heads put on it with a single plane manifold and a holler 650 cfm carb in a 69 Nova. That ran into the 11.sec 1/4 mile the biggest wake-up for that engine was the heads and I took her to 8500 RPMS and she was still pulling
