Rear axle over springs
Hey guys/gals,
I'm looking for a rear shock that will work on my 55 TF. I have axle over springs (axle flip kit) and I'm not sure what socks to use. I've been trying to figure it out by compressing and extending the rear end, but haven't really found a shock that has the measurements I'm getting. I'm figuring about 7" compressed and 12" extended. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to order shocks I can't use. |

without an idea of your setup all we can do is guess your shock length should is jacked up (hanging on springs) to hitting the frame you don't want the shocks to limit the travel on either end of up or down once i figured my shock travel i went to the monroe catalog and picked a shock i used the stock upper and lower shock mounts in my $29 axle flip but my shocks are twice as long as what your asking for

Re: Rear axle over springs
like ogre says, hang the rear axle and get a totally extended length, then add a bit. then compress the suspension till it bottoms on the snubbers and that will be your compressed length. if you rely on the shocks to be your travel limiters you may end up doing a lot of repairs to the shock mounts not to mention purchasing a lot of shocks.

I haven't welded it in place yet, so I don't have a picture to show. Guess I'll have to go to Napa etc to see what they have. |

Re: Rear axle over springs
It takes a bit of studying and decoding but this chart has every shock setup that Monroe makes listed with the compressed and extended lengths and the ends. Figure out what works and if you have a different brand as a favorite the Monroe number should cross reference to any popular brand.

Re: Rear axle over springs
I'm using front shocks on the rear , I flipped the axle on top, and using stock shock mounts uppers and lowers, kept it simple, same as Ogre
https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/mor...nid=443&jpid=0 when going through the Monroe list also need to verify that they have loop on top and bottom for mounting and measure center to center of loop |

Re: Rear axle over springs
Closest thing that comes to mind for a short shock is for a T bucket
7-1/2 to 10-1/2" http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedw...ack,92618.html http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speedway-T-B...VVvRxA&vxp=mtr Good Luck, let us know what you come up with, and what works ,for the next guy.. |
