Dash compass questions

Two questions.

Has anyone compared a reproduction ($50) to the new originals ($175) still out there? They look darn close in pictures. I think I'd still prefer the old one, but hate to pay NOS money if the repro is perfect, so jus curious.

Second question - where do people mount this in our trucks? I don't want the truck to "be about" the compass, I don't want it taking over the interior, but don't know where to best put it to be noticed but not in your face.

Thanks!

Back in the day, most people stuck their compasses on the windshield or the top of the dash. All what you wanted.

I thought everybody's grandma or uncle had a compass back in the day.
I don't know that you could order a compass with your new truck. But I'm sure you could pick one up at the parts window at the dealership.

Re: Dash compass questions

Here is where I installed a compass on my 71 Longhorn. I used the existing rear view mirror cover plate mounting hole. This way if I decide I want to remove it, no harm no foul.

Re: Dash compass questions

I think I like that - any chance you can take a pic that shows the mounting so I can emulate it? By the way you're about to be T-boned by a C10.

Have seen plenty, even had a few (non-GM labeled), but thought Dave was talking about an RPO I'd somehow missed! Glad to know it was a parts counter pickup!

Re: Dash compass questions

I love these old compasses I found this one stuck in the seat the day I got the truck, Glue was still sticky so I stuck where I thought it may have fallen from hasn't moved since the Original Owner is still with his truck,
looks cool if you ask me
