Custom License Plates

Looking at getting a custom plate for my '72, wondering what other guys are running for slogans on custom plates?

Re: Custom License Plates

My dad bought my truck brand new in 71. it's a 3/4t long bed. After he passed I got "DADSC20" to honor/remember him by.

Re: Custom License Plates

I am not into custom plates but I would guess that it would have to be something that means something to you personally or something representing the pickup in some way or another.

Re: Custom License Plates

I run a frame that says "Built Not Bought" because people think I have money and I built this truck by hand from two framerails up!

On my car I have 116 because that's the license plate my Dad had on it in Saskatchewan in 1969. But we (WA State) can't get collector plates with custom content, which is unfortunate.

My best advice is not to duplicate what the truck already says (like putting "SS 396" on a Camaro that says that on the side already).

Most people can't tell what years these are (as evidence by people that tell me their Dad had a truck just like mine, except it was a 1956 and it was a Ford) so having the year is nice.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Custom License Plates

I don't remember ever seeing a truck without tail light trim (like Andy's) before. Even my Dad's old poverty 910 had it.

The ones that have trim have trim holes - I wonder if its a different stamping?

What part of SK? I am a Saskatchewan boy born and raised other than going to College in Michigan.

I ended up going with "306 C10" "306" is Saskatchewan's area code. So did pretty much what you suggested not to do, lol. The beauty thing is SK has "Collector plates" which are vintage looking and will fit the truck nicely.

Collector Plate

Actual plate from 1969

Nope shaved it all off when I had the last paint job done. All trim was removed and all 200 are so holes welded up.

Re: Custom License Plates

How about "IDEWHAUL"? It is a truck, after all... (I'm not a big fan of the custom plates either, but I do occasionally enjoy the ones that make you think a little bit before you 'get it'... Ha). I remember a Model A sedan I saw once that had the plate "IDOXLR8", and that always stuck with me - can still see the car, and I was a teenager at the time. i.e. it's been a long, long while. I prefer YOM plates if your state lets you run em.

Re: Custom License Plates

Also run YOM plates on my '71 4x4, '71 Chevelle and my '57 Chevy 2 dr. $18 a year for registration saves a bit from normal registration.

Collector Plate

Actual plate from 1969

Its great we finally got Collector Plates in December 2014. I over the years always managed to get 777 as my first 3 numbers for all my vehicles. I watched the series evolve over the years and in 2008/2009 when I started seeing the "G" series of plates on vehicles I called SGI to see if 777GDB had been released. It had and the SGI lady called the issuer and they still had the plate and it hadn't been released and they agreed to save it for me. I live in Saskatoon and the plate could have been anywhere in the Province, and it could have meant a3/400 mile drive to get it, and I would have had to go to the issuer where ever they were in the Province to register my 72 and get the plate. Well sometimes things align for you and I got lucky because the plate was at an issuer in Warman Sask. which is only 5/7 miles North of Saskatoon. When the Collector plates were released i went and got a collector plate with 777GDB on it and that is what I run on the trucks now. If someone wants to turn that sideways pic around, feel free.

Re: Custom License Plates

I brought my truck home via Rt. 66 in 2009, so I thought DIDRT66 was appropriate. 3000 miles from L.A. to Michigan, stupidist thing I ever did and one of the funnest things I ever did.
