brake rotors
One of my rotors is warped so I am looking for 2 new ones. Does anyone know a good source for rotors? Preferrably zinc washed ones.

I put slotted/drilled rotors from a company called racing brake on all my vehicles when their stock rotors go south. Of course my company carries those rotors but there was a reason I choose to approach these guys at SEMA and get somthing going.

Anyone else know a good source? I remember seeing some people here running them...n2trux, didn't you have zinc washed rotors? |

I asked this same question a while back asking about the Brembo's out there and got a funny answer from 1fastc10........."your truck is not a scma race car"
I know he meant it smart-as#ed but I thought it was real funny. My truck warps any GM or Kragen's rotor within 2 years. Last time I had a set shaved the guy said he had never seen any warped so bad. I am not hard on the brakes at all so I don't know what to recommend..............you might try the Brembos from tires.com......it can't be worse than the GM jobs! |

I have a really bad warped one too, dunno what caused it but it gives a really funky shimmy shake when braking. I want the zinc washed units because I don't drive the truck during the winter months. I fear part of the problem is that i drive my truck hard, even on the german autobahn. I've had it near the rev limit in 3rd gear (TH400) multiple times and some people like to swerve out in the left lane so hard braking is involved too. Brembo is an italian brand, do you have the part # ? Maybe they have them here in Europe which would save me a bundle on shipping & tax.
As far as being a race car, most of a brake system being race car only is not in the rotor but in the pads. The rotor size and design only affects the amount of heat (energy) it can store and how quickly it can get rid of it. Larger rotors can store more heat but if they can't vent it quickly enough you will get brake fade. The pads however, I run Wilwood (Raybestos) Polymatrix pads on my corvette and those are race only pads, they need to heat up before they work properly and they creaate a lot of brake dust and eat away rotors at an alarming rate. You can never have brakes that are too good, good brakes are not only powerful but can also be modulated properly. Thanks for the link Marck Last edited by TwinTurbo; 02-25-2004 at 06:30 PM. |

I found 2 brembo rotors that fit, have to find out what the diff. is, the 1st one is a good deal cheaper so the 2nd the. #'s are 27016 and 27021. Then there are the ventilated or cross drilled sport rotors but i can't find them for our trucks...so that probably means there aren't any.

TPM dosen't make rotors for our trucks yet
Brembo rotors are going to be the same as any other. Just get the cheapest set you can find and use em. Even powerslots are re-badged GM rotors, and they usually use brembo blanks.

If you are only warping one rotor, your probably dealing with a sticking caliper. If the caliper doesn't release as it should, it going to cause excessive heat and warp the rotors.
Regardless of the pad/rotor combination you are running, if you are warping both rotors you should consider cryogenic treating your rotors. If your not familiar with cryo-treating take a look here Applied Rotor Technology I have used cryo-treated rotors and I can attest to it working "very" well. I am brutal on brakes. I run hard and stop harder. Most brake jobs don't last 18-20K. With Cryo-treating it has doubled, and even tripled the time between brake jobs.... I know he meant it smart-as#ed but I thought it was real funny. Jeremy? Smart @ss response? Get outta here:p

I will try some new ones first before going all out on new rotors. Cryo treatment is out of the question, too expensive. I have cryo treated gears in my ZF6 speed and they were fricken expensive.
I don't have sticking calipers anymore but I did have one that was sticking a bit and that rotor is not warped, jsut a bit worn. The other side is the one that is messed up to the point that the guide pins are starting to wear flat spots. ugh...I hate floating calipers, as service friendly as they may be. I'm almost tempted to buy some 4 piston calipers |

Cryo expensive? Hmm? Maybe over where you are, but not here. The onl part that was expensive about it was shipping. At the time I couldn't find anyone local that did brake parts. I shipped the rotors and pads from Texas to Cali and back....

Does anyone make a caliper and rotor kit for the front of out trucks?
Maybe a 2-piston system? Does any wilwood kits work? I would like to upgrade rotor and calipers next brake job if I can come up with the money and later down the road convert the rear to disc. Who has upgraded front rotors and calipers and what did you get and what did it cost? Thanks!

I think you have to use 17" rims when using SSBC caliper though.

why? that depends on the rotor diameter
http://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com/products/superTwin/ doesn't mention anything there. If I would do it I'd isntall some new spindles and convert to 4 piston brakes. I've got some Wilwood Integra 4s, Superlites and IR-GTs lying around so maybe one day.... |
