Installing lower control arm rubber bumpers?????
I was just before installing my reconditioned lower control arms today and was not able to get the new rubber bumpers installed. Uppers were no problem.
I put the bumpers in front of a heater to soften them up but still could not get them in. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF THE SECRET TRICK TO INSTALL THESE DANG THINGS?????? I would really appreciate the help. 69 air cab. |

grease and a screwdriver. start one side of the bumper in the slot, then push it the rest of the way with a flat screwdriver.
grease the end of the bumper good. |

That screwdriver thing works pretty well even without the grease.
Slide one end into the slot and then start working the sides with a flat blade screwdriver. If you are gentle but firm and persistant they will learn their place and stay there.:p

Where did you get 'new' rubber bumpstops? I've hit the local partshouses in my area but all they have are shorter chrysler/GM style different than what the trucks require.

vendors
Go to the vendors that are always posting on here. Teeitup, Tim Christian, WES, pickmup, rickspickuparts (sorry if I spelled them wrong or left somebody out) or some of the mail order places that are always being mentioned - classic performance products, no limit, early classic enterprises (again my apologies). Josh had all of these folks listed on the main page, but they disappeared with the server problems.
good luck, scott

I think I got these from LMC (www.lmctruck.com) and they were about $4 each. I also buy from www.truckandcarshop.com.
A lot is made overseas but the quality of almost $2000 in parts has been good. |

I've got a couple of catalogs lying around, I just never thought about seeing if they had the front control arm bumpstops. I guess I'll check tonight. Thanks.

Re: Installing lower control arm rubber bumpers?????
I was still struggling with the dish soap (specifically on the lower rectangular ones) so I threw the rubber bumpers into a pot of boiled water and let them soften up for a minute or two, hit the metal with the soap and they popped right in! I used a pair of pliers to pull them out of the water.
