Quick Question?
I have read a lot about lowering the rear 4" with late 70's early 80's Monte Carlo springs. My question is will the springs off a Cutlass or a Grand Prix work to? What is the latest year I can use?

Brand spankin' new springs that are made to do the job are dirt cheap. Invest in a new set, you won't regret it.

Dirt cheap to one person is 1/2 of another person's pay check. Not all of us can whip out the VISA Platnum card for truck parts.
Old stock A or G body springs should work from what I've been told. The Malibu went up to 84 I think. Also an old member said something almost 2 years ago about a Limo Caddy springs looking liek they'd fit...he did a one man 4 car demo derby in his back yard. Anyone else remember that? |

would those be the stock springs or are these still lowering springs but for a monte carlo. So if i just went to my local junk yeard and got a set of Monte Carlo springs they should lower the rear 3-4 inches. But what about the front could i get the front ones and lower it or not. Thanks

should be softer since they are intended for cars, not sure though.

IF YOU CUT ONE FULL COIL OF YOUR STOCK FRONT SPRINGS, IT'LL LOWER THE FRONT ABOUT 2 1/2 - 3" & STOCK EL CAMINO SPRINGS FROM THE 70s OR 80s IT'LL LOWER THE BACK ABOUT 3 1/2 - 4" MAKING IT PRETTY LEVEL. THEY ARE A LITTLE SOFTER THAN TRUCK SPRINGS. JOHN

The cool thing is, the El Camino is an 1/2 ton truck. So the load capacity would be about the same, save for the difference of the vehicle weight.

I replaced the springs in my Monte Carlo after over 200K, while doing a complete suspension rebuild. The car had been lower in the back than the front for a couple of years (at least), but now sits right with the new springs. Probably sagged 2 inches or more, just from fatigue.

Thank for all of the feedback. I been pricing new springs they are like $150! I am not ready to spend that kind of money right now on springs. I think I will go with the ElCamino Springs like junkyardjohn said.
My truck has new stock height springs on the back and the truck sits way to high in the back. What I am trying to do is level my truck so will three or four inches be right or to much?

I don't think I spent anything close to that, I got mine from Performance Suspension in Phoenix. They ahve an 800 #, I'll look it up for you if you want.
