Re: Removing cab/bed
I did mine by myself just set up some cribbing with 2x12's running across them. I just kept jacking up (slowly), on the timber to raise either the front or back of cab, then stacked patio pavers under the timber.
Once I got it up high enough I rolled the chassis out and then rolled the cab dolly in. Took about an hour..... |

Re: Removing cab/bed
hoist and straps - my garage was built with 9 foot ceiling so it works out good to get it off with the chain hoist. I also used a 1000 lb come along.

Re: Removing cab/bed
I have done the "Hanks Garage" method. works good if you have a second guy (or wife) who can put the shims in under the blocks while you lift. or use another member between the cross pieces to lift with a floor jack and shim yourself (easier on the back and probably safer) one side then the other side until high enough.
some time back I acquired an old hospital bed from a govt auction. cheap. I took an old metal door and screwed to the top where the bed used to be and then I had a mobile workbench with a flat top. it is adjustable hydraulically for height. I used that parked stationary under on side of the cab which I had set up like the "hanks garage" photo with 2x4's sideways under the cab. then lifted the table so it took that side of the cab off the frame rails. I had previously laid 2x4's lengthwise on the table as well, with some old broom sticks (or dowelling) under the 2x4's to act as rollers. then I went to the other side of the cab and lifted it by hand while pushing the cab onto the bed (which rolled easily across the table due to the dowels under the 2x4 rails). after a few trips to move the dowelling the cab was positioned on the table. the original "hanks garage" 2x4's came in handy when it was time to let the hand held part of the cab down because that is a spot for the cab to sit on while you go to move the dowels. of course it would be easy if you had a bunch of guys but I work alone 98% of the time so one learns to adapt. just an idea I thought someone else could use if in a pinch or trying to do something on the cheap without storing some monstrosity of a lift till "next time". |
