Google SMI Carbs - I am getting the $295 rebuild. I have heard nothing but great reviews for SMI. 7-8 week process.

I have used US carburetor out of florida. The replate all the steel parts and recolor the carb body. When they are done they bench test them on a engine before sending them back. These carbs look like new again.

Can't help with the carb question, but had to compliment you in your truck. It sure is nice looking! Rare to see one not slammed to the ground.

The Carb Doctor, Bob Stone did mine. I bought it from a boardmember here. It is literally brand new. Runs as good as it looks.

Re: quadrajet restoration??? who should I use ??
After talking to them on the phone first, I sent mine to The Carb Shop in Ontario CA. I selected a basic rebuild, no replating, The work did included resealing the well plugs and rebusing the throttle shaft, new choke pull of, new float and acellerator pump and the usual gaskets needed. They advertise all carbs are tested on an engine before shipping back to customer. Upon reinstalling it on my 71 350 it ran like Sh&@ ! Very disappointing ! Ended up having a friend who is in his 70's go through it again. It seem to work ok now in warm weather but in cold weather the choke still is not right ? It is a divorced choke version, installed on a Performer intake. Considering removing it for an electric choke 1406 and putting it on the shelf....

All American Carburetor out of Orange Park, Florida has done 4 Holley's for me for Camaros and Chevelle projects. They do outstanding work. I believe their pricing is around 225-250 depending on warranty.

Re: quadrajet restoration??? who should I use ??
rebuilding a carb should cost no where near the 250 plus being quoted. "restoring" one...maybe. but if it does not work the price can hardly be justified.
and do you actually get your own carb back. I sent one out and paid the 250 dollar entry fee to play the game. I got a carb rebuilt by an autoparts store returned almost 3 months later. wrong carb too. I was told to "F" off. |

I am in no way affiliated with All American Carburetor, just a happy customer sharing my good experience and recommending the company to another member who asked about carburetor restoration. |

Classic Carb: Bob Stone
267-467-6018 10 Hilltown pike Line Lexington, PA 18932 Also goes by carbdoctor on eBay. You can see his feedback. I bet I have had 15 carbs down from him. Pontiac tri powers and quadrajets. If they are done right, they are fine. If the shaft seals leak or it is adjusted incorrectly, you will have problems. This is the same thing as any carb. He can also change metering rods, jets etc if you have a little more cam. |

Re: quadrajet restoration??? who should I use ??
Sean Murphy in California. They ask a ton of questions about the application so its tailored to your truck (ie, manual vs automatic, intake, ignition, etc.)

SMI was around 300 but it is a restoration, looks new, works great is the carb you send in. Caveat is I haven't dynode my engine yet.

Re: quadrajet restoration??? who should I use ??
You just bought that huh? Nice to hear it runs well. I may have mine done, though it runs well. I'm missing the parts for auto-choke. I don't know what to look for, so thought to start from scratch. It was last rebuilt 35K and 20 years ago.

Re: quadrajet restoration??? who should I use ??
Thanks for all the the input guys. I'm going to send it to Bob since he's on the east coast and has a great reputation. I'll call him today and will probably send the tri-power carbs off my 59 impala also. They're long over due for restoration. Here's a pic of it also

Re: quadrajet restoration??? who should I use ??
I have used All american carburetor out of FL a few times. Never send anything in for a rebuild, just buy outright. What I do is buy their universal units with electric choke. They have these listed in the 650cfm variety (we all know every qjet is 750cfm, just a matter of secondary flap opening). Can usually get one for $200 shipped if you catch it on sale. They are completely re-plated and rebuilt. The cheapest units are the ones set up for small block as that's where the demand is. They look and work great out of the box. If you need to modify one, easy enough to pull it apart and make some changes.
