How do you guys hide all your wires for clean engine bay?
I built a nice 355 for my 70 C10 and painted the engine bay gloss black, the motor is Chevy orange and has some nice polished aluminum parts a a little chrome here and there.
The main wires in having a hard time hiding are bothe the pos and neg from the battery. Where do you guys run the ground from the battery to your motor? And how to hide the positive going to the starter and alternator, as well as the two-wire connection at the alt. Pics would be awesome, I'd love to see you guys' engine bays This is a pic of my engine bay before prep and paint, PO made a rats nest Last edited by kcsa75; 03-13-2016 at 12:26 PM. |

Re: How do you guys hide all your wires for clean engine bay?
See it will never end now ,Every time you walk past your truck you'll be thinking of the next project you can do to make it handle better , Go faster , Look better or just one more wash and wax . You've officially got the bug and there's only one cure another project truck waiting in the wings . You'll know when you see it ! It will call out to you as you walk by .....PSST , PSSST Hey buddy ! Can you save me TOO ??? Yep your done may as well move a frig and couch into the garage , Say goodbye to the wife and kids and doesn't everybody have permanent grease under their finger nails ?
P.S. Extend the wires and run them under the engine , Just don't mess with the fusible link and make sure to increase wire gauge to handle the increased length .

Re: How do you guys hide all your wires for clean engine bay?
i see your useing a long water pump you can re rout the alt wires back over the core support in front of the rad either in the oe wire gutter or under it.
get yourself some color coded wire the right guages too extend the wires since they will be too short. when you cut the wires stagger your cuts so you dont end up with a lump all in the same spot. be sure too solder and shrink wrap them nicely. this really helps from keeping the alt wire from laying across the front of your engine. all the wiper motors i ever get the windshield washer pumps never work. i usually put a small aftermarket pump mounted right next too the wiper motor and use the oe wires to power it. but in the engine bay where the hoses come out the firewall i only use one hose off the pump through the gromit then a "T" IN the wire gutter to each side. battery cables can be "built" with longer wire to run them anywhere you want just make sure they are tight, secure and way from heat. having a hei you should only have two wires running across the firewall gutter. only the purple wire goes all the way across down too the starter.the hei drops down in the middle. get rid of any unnessacary wires. there is many ways to rerout wires it really depends on how much you really dont wanna see them. just make sure you do it right wire fires are not cool.

Re: How do you guys hide all your wires for clean engine bay?
Factory harnesses wrapped properly tend to disappear in a clean engine... and it doesn't get much more "cluttered" than a big-block with AC and dual batteries!
If you're always pushing yourself to a higher standard, eventually it will be YOUR standard. That's what I did - I try to work "above my own pay grade" so I'm always trying to improve. And believe it or not tidy wrapped harnesses are one of those things! It also is a handy way to avoid rushing, since you know you'll do a terrible job if you're just rushing to get it done. Would you like it done right, or would you like it done now? Can't be both sometimes!

This longbed though, I'm very happy with the power and speed (didn't see that coming) and now I just want to get the suspension and brakes safe and new, maybe some 3 point seat belts and some paint. The rear end needs a posi, but that'll come too. |
