250 6 cylinder to 5.3 swap

Guess the title states it, about to swap a 80 step side.

I have successfully swaped a 6.0 into my 56 bel air, but I have a couple of questions on the truck.

Would it be easier to swap the 6 cylinder frame mounts for SBC?

Has anyone used the 6 cylinder frame mounts successfully with a ls engine?

This is for my 14 year old son... So I have some time.

Thanks!!

Re: 250 6 cylinder to 5.3 swap

My truck had a 6 when I got it. But it was a factory 8. I was able to use the same frame mounts. Just needed new motor mounts. Which at the time were impossible to find. Had to go to junk yard. Not sure about now

Re: 250 6 cylinder to 5.3 swap

My notes say the 79-84 C10 engine mount frame brackets are the same for 250 six and small block V-8.

They are:
464710, bracket, engine mt frame, RH
6271361, bracket, engine mt frame, LH

However, I can't say which brackets an LS conversion requires. That's a function of the aftermarket brackets that bolt to the engine.

Re: 250 6 cylinder to 5.3 swap

I swapped a 5.3L into my '80 Fleetside that had the 250 6cyl. I used the stock frame mounts but moved them to the lower V8 position on the frame. I was then able to use the V8 clamshells to bolt the new engine in place

Re: 250 6 cylinder to 5.3 swap

check out the mount adapter plates that Tejas Steelworks has they move the engine up and forward a bit and use the stock frame mounts and the stock V8 clam shells.
They have a facebook page that is helpful.
