Re: What to do when you first get your old truck
All the suggestions above are great, but the first thing to do is take loads of pictures. Everything overall, and anything you think may need to come apart. It's very disappointing years in the future when the first picture you have to show everyone was taken a year after you started fixing everything. Do the pictures first thing so you have before photos.

Re: What to do when you first get your old truck
I drove the wheels off of mine for first 3 years straight.. I did work on it along the way, but it was always back on the road by Monday morning.

Re: What to do when you first get your old truck
Great threat! I picked up my truck, drovevhome and my head wouldn't stop spinning... "where do I start? What do I do?" Now I've got it... take lots of pictures, make it safe and reliable and drive it! The plan is starting to make itself clear!
Thank you! |

Re: What to do when you first get your old truck
Get it home. Tear it down all the way. Spend your unborn children's college money on it. Swap in a diesel. Swap in a five speed. Swap in new axles. Put it back together. Drive it until you find another truck. Sell it for 1/8 of money invested.

Re: What to do when you first get your old truck
For me, the first thing is to always get a tetanus shot.
Then I start buying supplies: meat, bread, cheese, and ale. Lots and lots of ale. That way when the angry villagers in my neighborhood show up in the middle of the night with pitchforks and torches because I've brought home yet another property-value-destroying monster, I can give them a feast and send them home fed, drunk and placated... until the next time I roll in with some hideous beast on my trailer. -Brad
