Closest thing I have is a friend of my and me hooked a tow bar to my Nova wagon one summer and drove up to Portland along the coast. It was a leisurely 4 days before we had a dip in the river to cut down the stink. That was bad enough. Melted snowcap water in the river was coldddddddddddddddd.

Yeah - luckily I've never been accused of having an overabundance of sense, so I was able to go!

The real trick is acting like it's nice and warm so you can convince the next knucklehead to jump in.

This post made my day! What a killer trip full of amazing memories thank you for sharing. Amazingly decades ago when my father owned my 67 C-20 him his father and his brother took it from Missouri to Alaska twice. But their trip was much more methodical and planned out with cushy hotel stays all along the way. And the truck had a full blown Camper on it back then as well.

What a great story ! That really was a cool thing you guys did,and the memories, .....well, here we all are, reading them and checking out all of your beautiful pictures ! Thanks for taking the time ! I was born in Ketchikan ( Southeast Alaska ) well ....lets just say it wasn't a State yet . I was in the Operating Engineers and worked on the haul roads that linked the camps together before any pipe was hauled up. We used to sneak off after our 11 1/2 hour shifts and catch Grayling in the streams until we got tired of it . We would just release them . Good memories ! My Dad and I worked on the pipeline at the same time but at different camps. It was boomin up there , guys from all over the lower 48 were stacked up everywhere . Looked like the gold rush days ! Thanks again for your great story ! |

Re: 1991: CT to Alaska in a '67 C10
SonnyBoy - we talked to some of the pipeline workers when we were up there. I don't know how those guys worked in the winter up there. Tougher than me, for sure. I'm about as far north as I'm comfortable with. Then there was the fishing boat guys...

Re: 1991: CT to Alaska in a '67 C10
So, the C10 continues it's march toward one million miles. To be clear, it's not the original engine, or transmission, and the differential has been rebuilt. It's had a couple of replacement beds. A repaint and cab floor patching exercise.
At this point the cab is past rescue. I think it's just "soft". At least the steel that's left. Decent cabs are tough to come by in the northeast. I think the owner is pondering a fiberglass cab, but the cost and the unknowns are making that look like a dead end. Anyone know of a cab in the region?
