Picked up my seat and it is the wrong color Great!

I have a black 72 and I am going to do the interior in bright red.I talked to my upholstery guy and I thought we were going to use red and black inserts instead of white and black.Do you think this will look ok having the white in it?

Are there any other white accents in the interior for the seat to "play off of", or is the seat the only white? If its the only white, it may look out of place. BTW, the seat looks awesome though.

Well, I really don't like what you have now. Better get it how you want it I don't think you will ever like it how it is now.

Depends on how you are doing the interior. If it will be like the factory with black sheetmetal then the red and white seat would look fine with a set of red door panels, carpet and dash. If you are going for the sea of red interior and sheetmetal I'd still run the white and black inserts with a red carpet. But black inserts and black carpet would also look great.

nice seats, white probably won't look good in an all black truck with all red interior

That white throws the whole scheme off. Kills it. If it is a clear cut mistake it needs to be redone correctly. You don't build a custom truck settling for less than what you want. But, when having one of a kind custom work done, you have to put extra effort into assuring you have communicated well and were understood, to the point of being redundant. Only you know what's in your mind, and when you tell the craftsman they tend to jump to what they know. Basically, they can only listen to part and figure they know what you are after from that point.

Nice seat, I have the exact seat and had it recovered locally. I worried the crap out of them until I was sure my idea matched their's.

Good luck, Rg

I think it will look alright. Red Black and White are pretty good color combos.

FWIW

Having you post this question is a clear indiacation that you aren't happy with it. It really doesn't matter what the rest of us think, you should probably take it back and see what you can work out with the upholsterer and make it what you want. You have spent too much to settle on something that will nag at you every time you get in the truck.

I have learned to personally inspect the material before any material is cut and sewn.

Re: Picked up my seat and it is the wrong color Great!

definite lack of communication. I am sure both parties shook hands on the deal, walking away sure they were on the same page. Evidently not.
He might be able to just replace the inserts? I dunno.
I had my interior guy open up a set of late model GTO seats and replace only the little panel that had the GTO letters. Can't tell now.

Re: Picked up my seat and it is the wrong color Great!

Assuming its possible to just do the inserts, I would say:

"How's about if I pay for the fabric and you donate your time and we change out that center fabric to what I originally intended. No point in worrying who's fault it is, just get it right and I'll cover the fabric cost. I know it sucks but I have to live with it for 10 years."

Re: Picked up my seat and it is the wrong color Great!

If he did them in a way that is different than what you asked for, I wouldn't have taken delivery. I'd have told the place, "I'm sorry, this isn't what I asked for, I wanted black and red inserts, please redo them at no cost to me".

If it doesn't fit your vision of the finished project, don't settle. It will always bother you what isn't exactly what you envisioned when you began this journey.

On another note - what year is the seat from and what modifications were needed to install it in your truck.

Good luck on your build.
