Knock sensor

Why does my 1985 truck have knock sensor ? At least I think that's what it is near the starter .

Re: Knock sensor

If it doesn't have it now I would assume that originally it had ESC on it. Most guys have replaced the esc dist with a regular hei.

Re: Knock sensor

It still has the original esc distributor , I guess I always thought knock sensors were for efi engines .

Re: Knock sensor

The only real input the ESC system has is a knock sensor. It advances the timing up as far as the controller lets it and then uses the knock sensor to pick up pinging then adjusts it back down. It is amusing how big the controller and harness is for what little it really does.
