sliding window rebuild

I've searched around the site and haven't found anyone that documented the rebuid of a slider. Anyone know of one?

It looks like I'll need to cut the channel and then weld it back just to replace the gaskets. Anyone know a better way?

I need to replace part of my lower channel anyway. It's rusted out.

here is where I found my info. My thread HERE has a few pics, I have not installed them back into the burb yet.

IMO-Don't waste your time and money an anything other than Steele Rubber's gaskets. they cost more, but fit great and are made of quality material.

BTW, the felt seals and the window run channel are ordered separately from the rubber kit.

Am I correct to think that I will need to cut out the straight vertical metal end channel to allow the glass to be removed and reinstalled?

I attached a few pictures to show the worst one I have. I'm glad it's not the curved section like yours!

No, you don't have to cut anything. slide the glass to the center of the frame and flex the horizontal channels just enough to remove the glass.

What he said... It's like a sliding window or patio door.. you can move the glass upwards and slightly spread the frame and the glass will come out.. Yes--you can do the same thing with new fuzzies when you put it all back together..
