What was the original engine?
Is there a way to tell what engine my truck originally came with? I now the current engine isn't original, but curious as to what it was from factory.

Re: What was the original engine?
The SPID could tell you, but only if it has an optional engine.
What year is your truck? What is the 2nd digit (3rd on some) of the VIN? We need to know if that is a S or an E.

Re: What was the original engine?
Actually a SPID will tell you if it a base engine as well by not listing an optional engine. But you are right the second or third character of the VIN (depending on the year/model) will tell you the engine configuration.
