Re: Recessed Autometer Gauge build

You've perfected that upgrade - excellent work.

Can you get these gauges with 8K tachs and 120 mph speedometers?

Re: Recessed Autometer Gauge build

This may sound like a stupid question but with the reccessed gauges is there a way you can take the front that is plastic and turn it into aluminum diamond plate? I was thinking about doing a diamond plate dash with the setup like you have I think would look really good. Am I totally off base here? just curious?

Re: Recessed Autometer Gauge build

I was doing a search for some instrument cluster mods, having this mod in mind and I'm so glad I found this thread. That is exactly the look I want for mine! VERY nice job. It looks super-clean!!

Re: Recessed Autometer Gauge build

my truck is far from being done. my 406 is on the dyno as we speak. cant wait to hear it run for the first time on monday! if you are interested in brackets or having Jeff do your gauges for you, you will not be disapointed. fit and finish on the brackets are very impressive for the price. the pictures dont do the bezel justice. it is flawless. i like aftermarket gauges but the factory look. my truck is in bodyshop hell. i hope to get it painted by the spring.....serious. i will post pics when the dash is installed. dont hesitate to contact Jeff if you have any questions, he is very easy to get along with and will walk you through the whole build process. -Bill

Does anybody have pics of these installed yet? I'm anxious to see how they look from the driver perspective.

Re: Recessed Autometer Gauge build

I know it is an old thread but i am still interested in doing my gauges in this same fashion. I am a bit nervous about cutting the retaining bezels off of and then epoxying the lenses on to the gauge.

my two questions are about the brackets and the OE-ish bezels.

so clearly you need to cut the bezel cone down to open the hole so you can see the small gauges clearly. what about the big holes? you didndt mention cutting them.

since you didnt mention cutting the large holes, i noticed this picture:

I noticed that the gauges have a different depth, how do you account for the different depths of the gauges in conjunction to the custom made brackets?

my last question is about the bracket mounting. it appears that the only thing holding the gauges to the front bezel, is a few small screws. looks like the vertical bracket holds the large gauges in to the bezel with only two small screws and then 2 more for the small gauges as well. is there more to it than that? seems.... i dunno, like hardly enough? what am i missing?

I dont have my gauges yet, so it could be that they dont weigh enough to stress the mounting points enough to bother?

thanks in advance.
