Gas tank skid plates
I have been watching the swap meets for a gas tank skid plate for my K5 for the better part of 5 years now. I finally found a clean one and its the only one I have seen at at the swap meets during that time. Are these normally hard to find?

Re: Gas tank skid plates
I shop at the pick and pull, up until about a year ago it wasn't hard to find a K5. Now even the square burbs and pickups are a rare sight.

Re: Gas tank skid plates
My old 85 blazer had one. I removed it to install a receiver hitch and good thing i did. Dirt and gravel had accumulated between the plate and gas tank and was rubbing a bad place on the bottom of the tank. Its just an area you need to wash out every now and then. I didnt offroad mine either.

Re: Gas tank skid plates
Were they even an option on 4x4 models or part of the package? I've seen them listed on the SPID but I don't think I've seen a 4x4 model without one.

Re: Gas tank skid plates
I'm not sure John. The skid plate may have been part of a package.
I dont remember my 82 having one but it had the roll bar. My 85 had the plate but no roll bar. Both were 4x4s.

Re: Gas tank skid plates
They were a free flow option RPO NY1.
Available on C10 and K10; transfer case shield was included on the K trucks. K

Re: Gas tank skid plates
maybe I should look at selling mine. I picked it up years ago prior to going 2wd and lowered but thought it might be good insurance.

Re: Gas tank skid plates
Keith, were the transfer case skid plates options before the aluminum cases of the 80's?

Re: Gas tank skid plates
I would be surprised if they were since the rest of the truck is built with off the shelf parts.

What 68Timber said...
CUCV skid plates are same as civi ones. Actually, outside the real mil-spec parts added to the Blazers(rifle rack, radio mounts, 24v stuff etc), they are just plain jane diesel K5s. Here in SoCal Blazers are everywhere but the wrecking yards. Rare to see one. Few yrs ago, I could walk into my favorite yard and count 20 Subs, pickups and Blazers. Now be lucky to find 3 trucks out of 4 yards & 3000 cars. Craigslist seems to turn up all the parts these days |
