1968 C30 Prerunner Build "Papa Smurf"
Well a little ways into my build now so figured I'd post it so i could more easily track whats going on with it. Long ways to go still tho.
I picked up a 1968 chevy c30 cab which was resting on a 1974 2wd c10 shortbox frame. No motor or trans when I bought it. Just roller with interior. Truck was a retired Chevron Oil work truck that was used in Texas up until 1994 when it was sold at auction to the gentleman I bought it from in Oklahoma where it sat in a barn since 1995. He is the one that did the body swap(set the body on the frame, never made mounts). Basic plans are 4.8 ls with a 76 mm turbo. A but TH400 trans, linked 9" rear end, full cage, back half, fiberglass fenders and eventually bedsides, front suspension I am letting my buddy Neal who owns Griffen Fab works build a set of beams for it. Shocks will be 3.0" c/o's and 3.0" bypasses, and then I will be using my 2.0" profender bumps that i already have. These pics are somewhat in order some aren't but after this post from here on out I will keep this updated so things are in order. |

Re: 1968 C30 Prerunner Build "Papa Smurf"
These are NOT MY beams as mine are still at laser waiting to be cut, but these are a picture of the exact beams my truck is getting. I can't wait to get these under the truck.
I did get some work done tonight. Lots of welding. Got most of the back half welded up. Good enough to check out droop and bump with the back half and the glass fenders. RIDE HEIGHT BUMP (although this is an unrealistic bump as more then likely the beams won't be able to clear the motor this low) DROOP |

This is where I am at with the build right now. I dropped the truck off last Friday at my buddies shop Griffen Fabworks for the beam work and am just waiting to get the truck back. Should be 4-5 weeks max I think and then will be getting on making that turbo motor run.

Only company I found making them. 3" bulge and 1 3/4" wider wheel opening. Still haven't found anyone that makes bulged bedsides for our year so I'll have to get more creative with that. |

Re: 1968 C30 Prerunner Build "Papa Smurf"
Got word beams and radius arms are fully welded so should have things mocked up this week.
Couple shots of the spindle assembly welded...BEEF!!! Uses a d44 snout and hub assembly. I went with a ford 5x5.5" to match the rear 9". One really nice thing about how he builds his beams is if i ever want to change or upgrade to a bigger snout/hub assembly i can cut out the backing plate and weld a new one in to accept the new snout. |
