Rallye Wheel Center caps.......Need Help
I have a set of 6 bolt rallye wheels, and I need some help identifying where these center caps came from.
-The center cap "Top" does not have a cut line or separation joint -The overall appearance is the same as any other "4x4" cap -They don't look like they have been modified in any way Problem is I have not been able to find any reference to this style of center cap anywhere. I currently have them on a 1965 carryall, but this truck is a Johnny Cash song so I cant rely that they came with this truck. I was wondering if any of you out there may have seen these before and what did they come on? Thanx in advance. |

I've never seen anything like that before.
Looks like someone took the open 4x4 cap and stuck something in the end. I bet if you look closer you will find a seam at the end of that outermost diameter. Can you post a pic from the inside? K

There is a casting line just above the lugnuts but there is no separation there either. I will try to get an inside shot but I don't have easy access to this truck. |

I'd be anxious to have one in my hand so I could turn it around and knock the center cap with a hammer handle a few times, see if that thing pops off like I think it would.

I haven't even seen anything resembling the center design. If some one made these caps where did the components come from? |

Re: Rallye Wheel Center caps.......Need Help
The blue bowtie reminds me of the center portion of most hubcaps GM put on the chevrolets in the 60's and 70's. I even seem to recall some of those hubcaps had removable center portions, probably because they were used on more than one GM division auto.
Hell I had a set of rally wheels on an 86 monte SS, found a set of aftermarket spinners that fit the center cap perfectly and had a perfect spot for a GM sticker that was meant for the early 80's rally centers on GM cars. One small screw on the inside is all it took to hold it in place and it looked seamless and like it was made that way.

Re: Rallye Wheel Center caps.......Need Help
The line at the base is design intent, indicating where the paint break is between the argent portion and the chrome.
I would be shocked (shocked, I say) if that cap doesn't have a small split line as shown below. K

That not a production piece that I have ever seen.
And there are several variations of that center cap. Please post a pic from the back side.

Re: Rallye Wheel Center caps.......Need Help
Okay, I managed to get access to the cap yesterday. I will apologize because when I got them off I could see the "split line" whoever built these caps did a fantastic job.
These caps were just not anything I paid attention to as my 'Burb is a GMC so they were not going to be on the completed build. Once I got the cap off I could see the part line and also the center hole at the top of the inside of the cap. |

That's the beauty of being a pessimist.
You are either pleasantly surprised.....or you are correct. K
