th 400 to 4l80e

I am wanting to swap out my th400 for a 4L80e in my 1982 c 20 . The truck has 4.10 gears , lookin for overdrive ! What is involved in this swap ?

I did the swap s while back and posted the build, actually went very well and was not too difficult at all.

It looks like a 700r would be a lot cheaper to swap in .

if you ever plan an LS/8.1/dmax swap, that would be the best time to upgrade to an 80e. I did the 8.1/80e in place of my tbi454/400 all at once since it saved me from needing to buy a tranny controller. if you pull/ haul much, the 700 isn't your best option

The 700r4 would be cheaper and easier to get parts for.Hit the junkyard look for c10/c20 81-87,Get the trans the driveshaft the crossmember the kick down the shifter linkage and maybe the steering column.I would drop the used trans off at a shop to get rebuilt which isn't that bad price if you drop it off and pick it back up.

Once you own a truck with a 4l80E you will never want another junky ass 700r4 or 4L60E
I love a TH400 , and a 4L80E
