1/2 ton or 3/4?

What is this? A 3/4 ton or a 1/2 ton? 4x4 long bed. Marker lights on the top. It's been in our family forever and most of us were under the impression it was a 3/4 ton truck. I just noticed in a picture, it looks like a 6 lug. 350v8 and a 4 spd. All the 3/4 ton trucks were 8 lug right?

Definitely a half-ton K10 (six lugger). C/K20s all had 8-lugs.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4?

Cab lights mean nothing in relation to 1/2-1ton trucks. It was an available option to all light trucks. My dad had a 71 K10 when I was a kid that had cab lights. The vin will tell you what it started life as. Looks like a K10 to me. Keep in mind the only difference between a long rd K10-20 is the springs and axles, frames are identical. Looks like a decent starting point for sure. I personally love the cab lights.

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4?

6 lug, 1/2T, providing someone hasn't swapped out axles, also if it says Custom 10 on the front fender it confirms 1/2T

If it has 6 lug axles it is definitely a half ton...nice truck, hope you are going to fix her up and get her on the road!

Re: 1/2 ton or 3/4?

as mentioned, clearance lamps mean nothing. It was a factory option, except on 69-72 C/30 dual wheel. For those it was mandated. Not many added this type (I have) because to munt these GM used a special roof skin with raised bosses. It was a lng time ago when I did it, but I guess I had the pigtails crammed and bent in there. Never had an issue. Just hooked up a lighted toggle switch so I could flash them or they'd stay on when I flashed headlights for truckers. Had three Big Dooley lights on the step under the tailgate, too...same switch so I could thank truckers who flashed me
