Pontiac 400 and Chevy 350 mounts

So put my mind at ease please....am I correct in assuming that the 72 Pontiac 400 motor mount setup is totally different from a 72 Chevy 350 or 400 setup??

YES you are correct .......TOTALLY different side mounts and BPO trans pattern ..... About the only thing the same is they both run on gasoline LOL

Yes, but you can use the GM conversion motor mounts from various suppliers that will adapt the block mount to the frame mount.

So what I currently have in place is this style of motor mount that was welded onto a chunk of C channel steel which was welded onto the frame.

The engine side of things uses this style of 3 bolt mount. The center bolt on mine sits out further away from the engine on a kind of shoulder...in other words, all three aren't sitting in a flat plane.

I'm not sure if they make a conversion kit or not. I checked out both website links you sent and they don't appear to have anything that will work. I guess I could maybe use something that didn't require that center mounting point to be utilized....like in the picture of this small block engine stand. It is using only the front and rear mounting points and skirts underneath the center point.

Take a look at this post I would use the original 72 mounts and build brackets off the frame to fit somewhat like was done for this Buick engine http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=703223

Yeah, those look similar to what I have. I read the post on the guy with the Buick. The PO took some C channel steel and welded it to the frame to raise the motor up high enough off the frame, then he welded the rubber based motor mount to that rather than bolting it down. The steel mount that bolts to the engine then straddles that mount and the long bolt slides through all 4 holes and threads into a nut on the backside.

My main thought was to install or fabricate something that looked more professional or "factory-like" rather than a couple chunks of channel steel.

There are different combinations depending on what you have or want to run. That type of mount requires a clamshell mount to the frame.

Or, you can run the 1967-81 Firebird block mount if you're using the single-bolt OE type pedestal frame mount. There are poly and rubber types that generally look like this:

Thanks for the input....I did pick up a set of 67-72 single hole tower mounts at a swap meet for $10/pair. I may get a few different mounts and figure out which works best.
