Ok, this looks like it might be fun.
The age old question everyone vs. Qjet.
I say the same thing about Qjets, they are junk, but they are only junk for one reason, they leak like a sieve. I have two Qjets and two edelbrocks, the Qjets eat them alive on the street when they are properly tuned, but about every six months or so I have to replace the seals to keep them from leaking gas all over my manifold. As for the edelbrocks they are great for someone who doesn’t want to mess with tuning all the time, have never needed to tune the edelbrocks I have (except when I first put them on). Its up to you if you like the stock look, you also might want to take a look at Demon carbs, they seem to be very nice carbs.

My '72 350 Qjet has always worked great, & has never leaked, although it did get rebuilt & rebushed after 100,000mi. or so. If it's the original carb that GM put on the truck, keep it, as it's calibrated especially for your engine. A mild cam swap shouldn't give it any trouble. It probably just needs a minor adjustment.

Pics for Dave

Here you go. If you go with the Edelbrock, the air cleaner spacer and breather tube to RH valve cover must go. Or at least I couldn't make it work properly.

I got my carb spacer and hose to the valve cover installed. Maybe I got lucky, but it seemed to fit with no issues. Did you have the original valve covers with the hole in the correct location?

I've not had a problem with this on a smallblock. Maybe I did not have correct spacer or didn't try had enough on this BB.

All carbs are junk in the wrong hands Ive owned holleys edelbrocks q jets autolites you name it They all had some quirks but they can be good carbs with proper tuning /jetting

On the edlebrock and gas milage i agree that a q jet will do better

I own a 1985 3/4 ton with 3.73s and Th400 and a stock/mild 355 torque engine.

I took my q jet off to jet it down and had some problems with the jets i used so i stuck an edelbrock on there and had it on there a few weeks I went from 12-14 to 9-11 MPG And it was just a 600 cfm Stock jetting

I finally got the proper jets for my Q-Jet put it back on now im getting close to 12-16 MPG

To mount an edelbrock on a stock intake you need a spacer and for the throttle linkage the stock one will work but you wont have WOT I suggest those Russel Adjustable brackets Or the Sepctre bracket I have installed a ton of these on peoples cars and my own They work good and can be bought with or without provisions for Detent.

Edelbrock makes about every bracket you ever need for about every application. Check out their website or your local NAPA store and ask to see their Edelbrock book. Dean has a clean setup!! His engine compartment looks AWESOME
