White wall cleaner?

What does everyone use to clean and protect your wide white wall tires?

Can't seem to find a lot of specific cleaners and Coker cleaner doesn't ship to Canada.

Re: White wall cleaner?

The Coker reps suggest not using that bleach white. Guy told me just use simple green

Re: White wall cleaner?

I've used sos pads on my harley white walls for years.
There are Coker dealers in Canada....maybe one of them carry the Coker cleaner?

I don't have white walls on anything today, but back in the day when white lettering was cool, we would all use sos pads and thought we were all Cool,

Re: White wall cleaner?

I used Wesleys religiously for 3 years on my Coker bias whites. Cleaned fantastically, but man did I ruin the rubber!! It dried the white walls terribly, and cracked them to death. Replaced them with radial wide whites, and now am just as satisfied with sos pads and window cleaner. Still have the Wesleys on the shelf, but these wide whites are just too damn expensive to ruin that way! Learned my lesson !

Re: White wall cleaner?

I have Diamond Back Radial whitewall tires on our '55 Chevy Sedan. Here is the link on how to clean them from their website. I've cleaned them according to their directions for over a year with no problems. I use simple green and a grey scotch bright pad. No problems yet.

"CLEANING TIPS (No Bleach)

One of the first things you will notice is that Diamond Back Classics are extremely easy to clean. Most whitewalls turn dingy or yellow because of the leaching of chemicals (mostly anti-oxidants) into the white material. Because our process uses a butyl lining to stop chemical leeching, you only have to clean the surface dirt. We recommend frequent cleanings with an abrasive cleaning pad. A fine or medium sanding sponge works well. These are available at most hardware stores.

Any good cleaner works OK - Castrol Super Clean, 409, Simple Green, Greased Lightning - just to name a few. Avoid cleaners that contain bleach. Prolonged use of these cleaners can “dry” the whitewall surface. Do not use products such as Armor All on whitewall. This could cause slight discoloration. Whitewall surfaces tend to “dry” with time, heat, ozone, etc. A vigorous cleaning periodically will get rid of the dry surface and help maintain the tire’s beauty. Don’t be afraid to scrub."

Re: White wall cleaner?

My experience with Coker's tire cleaner was a waste of time. The best I've used is a cleaner called "Awesome", it's available at Dollar Tree and Walmart.

Re: White wall cleaner?

Aluminum brightener works great. It is an acid so don't get it on your hands. If you are going to polish aluminum wheels use it first then polish them. It will clean all that mess off the tires also. You can find it at big truck chrome shops or by the gallon at air conditioning shops they use it to clean the coils.

Re: White wall cleaner?

I used SOS pad on my 51 Merc when I was 16 in 1963 and have used them off and on ever since when I had white walls on a rig. I've used bleach white at times but to me it didn't work any better and I used Simple green and a scrub pad on the last Cad that I had that had whitewall tires.
