Starter issue
Hi:
Lately when the engine is warm, it can be just 5-10 minutes, if I turn the engine off I can't start it again. The starter make this loud grinding noise but it doesn't feel like it is engaging the flywheel. I have to let sit until is completely cooled down until I can start the engine again.Any ideas? Is the starter on its way out? I don't have any heat shield. The engine has the stock manifolds ((no headers). Besides, I thought heat soak cause the starter (the solenoid) not to anything rather than making grinding noises when it is hot. Thanks,

Heat soak causes starters to require more power to engage. When that power exceeds the purple wire's ability to carry it, people call that heat soak. When the purple wire has been compromised, people bandaid it with Ford solenoids and stuff. It's a hobby of mine, but not what you're running into.
Sounds like you're right on the edge of proper clearance and then once things get warm and expand, you're too far out. Here's a video, or you can google "shimming a gm starter" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cYqrKmVECY
