Factory cold air intake???
So I usually just pass this truck by in the junkyard because its picked pretty clean. But I decided to check it out today and it has this weird thing bolted to the firewall. It looks almost like the intake setup 68 z28 camaros use... Glovebox door is gone soooo. Just wondering if anyone knows what this could be?

Re: Factory cold air intake???
The red thing was another cars glovebox door i think. I threw it out into the car next to it. I dont know what is above the horn either. I got a pic of it just in case it had something to do with the fire wall thingy

Re: Factory cold air intake???
It's a snorkel kit found only on the super rare long bed submersible C-10 L6 ! Used by the CIA on recognizance during the Cuban missile crisis ! All those trucks were shipped to Northern California to monitor Mendicino county growers in the middle 70's Wow super rare ! Wanna buy a bridge ?

Re: Factory cold air intake???
Above the horn looks to be an Aux. Battery tray.

Re: Factory cold air intake???
All that "growing" kicked off in Humboldt Co. in the mid-70s. It went big time and spread to surrounding counties by around 1980. I read that in a travel brochure
Looks to be a fresh air intake accessory (possible option) offered on the 60-66s for the driver side. All I see are that one style truck and those couple pictures show the factory heater/heater intake area on the cowl on the passenger side. Looks like some one installed one on this '68 Chevy. And yeah, a whole lotta parts just in the one picture. How was that fender? That tray where you'd think an auxiliary battery would be is shaped funny and too small for a proper size battery, I think. Looks like whatever it was for laid across/mounted to those two slots

Re: Factory cold air intake???
Could have been a "field truck" and that was a fresh air intake option to help keep as much dust and dirt out of the air cleaner by drawing it in from the cab.
Since none of these trucks ever really had any "performance" options on them, I'd dare to say the idea behind it wasn't for cooler air for more poop... Gary

Re: Factory cold air intake???
I believe this was a Nascar inspired option. Lots of old Nascar air cleaner intakes took in cool air from the high pressure created at the cowl. I would love to run that thing on my truck.
