Where does the cowl vent lead to?
I accidentally pushed some (probably) 40+ year old tree debris in the cowl vent down into the side of the truck somewhere, but I don't know how to get in there to clean it out. Anybody know how to get into there? I just wanted to get an idea before I start tearing everything out looking for something that may be easy to find another way.

Re: Where does the cowl vent lead to?
You can pull the vent flaps out and reach down in there....the opening goes right beside it and narrows down and goes out the bottom beside the fender.

Re: Where does the cowl vent lead to?
The vents are located in the kick panels down by the foot well....an AC truck has a vacuum pot on the passenger side and a slide handle on the drivers side behind the emergency brake pedal bracket.

Re: Where does the cowl vent lead to?
get a shop vac and suck all that stuff out. stick a piece of stiff wire or anything handy and stir it up. all kinds of dirt and debris is probably in there causing rust.

Re: Where does the cowl vent lead to?
When I clean mine out - I use fiberglass screen to keep the debris out moving forward.
https://www.amazon.com/New-York-Wire...erglass+screen I have seen some people hot glue it to the bottom of cowl panel. I went the easy route. I cut two pieces a bit wider than the cowl openings, screwed it down using the factory screws on one side, pulled the other side tight and then used the screws on the other side to hold it tight against the bottom of the cowl. I then use a set of scissors or a box knife to cut off any excess for a clean look. No debris in the cowl and the fiberglass mesh doesn't rust down the road. |

Re: Where does the cowl vent lead to?
There is a drain at the bottom. Once you dig all the crap out as best you can, and vacuum, blow air (might want goggles & dust mask). I'd follow up with blasting water to clear all remaining debris. When torn down, I've been known to cut larger holes to allow for better drainage.

Re: Where does the cowl vent lead to?
Thanks for the info guys. Still trying to dig out those flaps. Theyre a little smaller than i thought from the pics. I think ill have my daughter teach in there since the opening is small and the angle makes for a hard grab.

Re: Where does the cowl vent lead to?
When I cleaned mine out, I took the door flap off and scooped out most of it. Then I used a vacuum for the rest and crawled under the truck to clean the drain hole.

I stuck a vacuum and air at the same time really helps on stuff blowing out at you.
