And i thought mine was in bad shape lol. Getting rid of rust is a must, and to do that is a tough job. Great job--nice work!

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
OK, after looking at that I want to strip my cab and spray everything with por-15!! You have some mad skills going on there for sure. I sure like the 4x4s but my 2 wheel drive started out in the family so I will play hot rod with mine. I am sure this build is going to be one nice truck!

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
Thanks guys, I keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end, just gotta get through the cab!
Here's the days progress shots, working on getting the firewall patched up and welded. Painted the inner roof with some rust inhibitor too. That's next inline after the firewall and vent buckets are on. |

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
Now that winter is approaching work has stopped on the cab. Unfortunately I don't have the accommodations to work on it inside.
So for this winter I'll be taking care of the engine, drive train, and any other miscellaneous things I can. And when spring comes around, back to the metal work! Over the past week I started tearing into the engine. It's getting torn down and re-gasketed. I also have to clean up the heads, lap the vales, scrub the inside of the block out with paint thinner.... all that fun stuff. Here's some progress as of now. And a video- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHKlZnd8ITM |

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
I see that your getting ready to replace the roof panel, let us know how that panel fits and works out that's something in the future I'm going to have to do to mine...

Can do Randy, if you check back towards spring time I should be starting in on the cab again and will post an update on the roof.

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
Well I started in on the cab again about 2+ weeks ago, still pluggin' away. Working on replacing the inner roof on each side (pics below). Aside from cab work not too much. The engine is ready to be assembled so I have to order the paint for that then it can be sprayed once it goes together.
Been trying to get my '61 GMC 5000 ready for the road by the end of this month so I've been devoting what little spare time I have to that. Can't WAIT to cruse around in that thing... |

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
I bet that GMC 5000 was a fire truck at one time with the dual spots and the chrome grill and bumper...and noticed that the running board is not original with the ribs but looks like what the fire dept. used it's not diamond plate but kinda similar...anywho KOOL truck.
And I'm impressed with the amount of work you have put in that cab, anybody else would have said it's too ruff and found another cab so my hats off to ya, your doing a great job..I see on your youtube video's that you have all kind's of toy's to keep you busy..

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
Time for another long awaited update guys.
I broke out the cab again today and got started on the drivers side door sills/jamb (whatever ya want to call them). Went a lot faster this time now that I know what I'm doing. Got everything cut out and cleaned up. Re-fabbed the corner of the patch panel from the donor cab. Everything seems to fit in nice. Should be able to get everything welded in this coming week. As for the engine, it's mostly back together except for intake/exhaust manifold, oil pan and valve covers. Still need to figure out what I want to use for red paint.... |

Re: 1964 GMC 4X4 Longbed
If I said I was impressed before I was WRONG...I'm super duperly overly Impressed, WoW WoW WoW, as I said before I would have said the heck with it...my truck had rust but not quite that bad, but I do have rust above the windshield so one of these days I may attack it...
