installing box on s10 swap

Hello All
Ive been looking for some good pics of installing box on my 49 with s 10 frame . Cab is mounted low on frame and running boards on . I'm about to cut box sides down to fit to running boards . Just curious as to what others have done . From looking at all the builds it looks like no one has cut the box sides down , are you guys running offset rims instead . Thanks

I cut a wheel opening and made inner fenders like most I've seen. Search "Cecil" in projects. Chris did a good job documenting the bed set up if I remember correctly. If you not getting a wider rear end you will need 2inch wheel spacers for the rear.

Post 144 is how I went about installing my box.

What rear axle are you running? The S10 4WD Axle is ~60 in. The 2WD axle is narrower.

I use a trick I learned from russ on this site, use the s10 bed floor, cut the s10 floor to 50" wide and cut it right behind the front stiffener, leave the back long and cut it to match, then cut out the arches. this is my current 49 chevy



it is a super fast way to get the bed mounted, inner wheel tubs, and a bed floor in one step. this took less than a day to do.

If you dont like the steel floor it makes a nice platform to install wood over it. this is my previous 47 gmc, the steel floor is under the wood, makes it super strong for hauling whatever.

also, you shouldnt need to cut the box sides to get the bed to slide down, cut out the supports in the bed so its just the outside vertical pieces. you have to trim the last 5 inches off the s10 frame too

I mount the floor first


then slide the bed over it till its in the right position.






also, it looks like your running boards are mounted too high in the front, there should be a gap between the running board and the cab that is filled with a rubber seal. the running board should be even with the bottom of the front fender.

Thanks for the pics guys . Thats what i had planned it to look like . I have the cab mounts mounted flush at front and 3/4 up on back ,so had no choice but to cut down the sides . the truck sits about 3 1/2 inches off the ground with stock suspension at the rear of fender . i have the running boards bolted to bottom of rockers until i make up the brackets . It's just going to be a rat rod looking truck . Basically a trail and error chassis swap for the other show truck im doing
