Motor/trans mounts??
I have a 58 w/ 235 & 3 speed, I can't seem to find these mounts, or maybe mine are so thrashed that they just don't look like the pic in the catalog. There is one on both sides, trying to put a parts list together. What are these? Thanks in advance.

Re: Motor/trans mounts??
I have seen that many of the old rubber mounts are not readily available.
I looked around and it looks like Steele Rubber Products will re-rubber the original mounts |

Re: Motor/trans mounts??
Ive been under a lot of these trucks & have never seen a mount system like that. It looks as some kind of setup to place the engine back further. The bell housing usually sets right on top of the crossmember. You may have to do like Crusher says & have them rebuilt.

Re: Motor/trans mounts??
Jim Carter, original old school chevy truck parts guy has them in his catalog. Look on page 91, item ME219. Call to make sure they are in stock.

Re: Motor/trans mounts??
Scroll down to the third row, at their price I don't think I would worry about changing to the truck style of those work ok and the setup isn't too cobbled up.
http://www.classicindustries.com/sho...engine-mounts/ I didn't notice DW's link to Ebay before posting the link above. Those might be available locally.

Re: Motor/trans mounts??
Yep, those are the ones. Hmmm...got me thinking about my parts list. I wonder if I should be looking at tri5 auto parts rather than a 58 pick up? Are the 235's fairly universal? For instance generator or starter? The clutch job went fine. Here's a pick of front motor mounts, those car or truck? You can see in the pic there is less grime in two spots up front , is that where a truck motor mounts?

Re: Motor/trans mounts??
Very universal but I'd say at some time in it's life someone swapped the complete 235, bellhousing and trans out of a 55/57 passenger car into the truck as a unit when they needed an engine and that was what was available. Not a real big deal back when it was done but a bit of a challenge for you now when you have to hunt parts and make a few decisions. The good is that the car motor mounts are far more available and real inexpensive. As long as the work that they did putting them in there is passable I'd leave it that way. If it turns out to be a cobbled up mess when you get it cleaned up so you can see what you have with scab welds and less than stellar workmanship Then I'd take a step back and figure out how to correct it.

Re: Motor/trans mounts??
Good advice mr48, I just crawled under it to see if it looked cheesy but I think it's ok. I'll clean it up good and see. Per your advice on my stuck "starter issue?" post over the weekend, I was just looking for part #'s etc on my existing starter & generator to get brushes/bushings. When I wiped off the dust they were both clean and "newer" looking. Just for spits and giggles I decided to try to excite/polorize the gen and low and behold it's charging. I don't think I did it correctly before, this time I got a good spark. Hope that solved my stuck starter problem, not to mention actually charging the battery. I better get back to work before the wife gets home, I'm supposed to be laying hardwood in our house, not playing with my truck. I'll be ordering 55-57 motor mounts this evening. Thanks for the help guys.
