Re: What does $3,000 get you?
Thanks for all of the input fellas. I have the truck in my possession. PO drove it the 45 miles to my house. I would have liked to pay less than 3K, but in the end I wanted the truck. Ya know how that goes. I ordered bushingfors the linkage and have figured out how to shift it - changing gates is tricky for now but doable. The 57 P/U I drove as a teen was much crisper shifting. I'll get it ironed out. It runs smooth and stops great, I'm a license plate and tail light bulb away from cruising into town tonight.

Once you have the new bushings in get that shifter aligned using a 3/16th drill bit and it will shift like glass .

$3,000 in my neck of the woods you'd be lucky to get a cab that isn't rusted through and a box that isn't full of dents and holes. Usually on a seized rusty chassis with flat tires. Odds are the truck would be rotten from Canadian winters, probably be partially ripped apart or have redneck fixes all over (badly patched panels and frame). Gas tank would be garbage, interior usually musty/moldy and full of mice nests if it's sat outside. Same with heater ductwork and air cleaner. If it runs that's a bonus. Sometimes you can get lucky..but most of the time that's what I'm up against. But...it's very different depending on where you live. |

Re: What does $3,000 get you?
I had to chime in on this topic since my 71 GMC is a close match to your recent find. Yes it's Medium Olive with a white top if you can't tell from the photo. Oregon still has a lot of these pickups available, you just have to be diligent looking and don't give up if the owner says NO "I'm going to restore it one day ".
I first saw this truck back in 1992, I finally convinced the first owner to let it go in 2012. It's a keeper, 350/350 ,power steering, manual disc brakes. It does have rusty outer rockers but laser straight overall. Purchase price was way less then 3K.

Same here in Salt Jersey but that's why I budget an extra grand for shipping a truck from the Southwest or Mountain West.
