Brake conversion on a 61 c10
I am putting a new engine in my 1961 apache10, and I need to convert the drum brakes to disc brakes. My issue is that all of the kits that are made specifically for 1961 c10s are like $1000. Has anyone come across cheaper conversion kits? I am restoring the truck and it was in bad shape, so I want to save money where I can.

Check this thread out, http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=366828 it shows how to use a 73-87 crossmember on a 60-62 truck so you can gain 5 lug disk brakes. I am about to do this myself on my 62

Its going to be pricy any way you go. You can stick with the torsion bar set up and run 70 up spindles as long as you swap in same year ball joints. Everyone is trying to get rid of bars but I would stick with them. I already committed to the Porterbuilt stuff when it was the first option out there to use bags for these x frame trucks. If lowering is not key find a truck with all parts I would look for heavy halfs if possible or Suburbans for the bigger bearings. The kits typically come with all the parts which your going to want any ways. New bearing and rotors, calipers.

Re: Brake conversion on a 61 c10
Correct me if I am wrong but I think only 60-62 ball joints will fit on a 61 a-arm. I would order a set of spindles for a 60-62 and then ask the distributor what year rotors and calipers will work with there spindles. The spindles I got from CPP worked with 77 c10 rotors and calipers. Then you can get the restof the stuff from the junk yard.
