I have read that EZ Off oven cleaner (the yellow can) will take off the factory anodizing on the band. From there it can be sanded and polished or cleared for a brushed look. From when I worked at a place that polished Stainless Steel, we used 180 grit to match the brushed look of the factory brushed finish.
Dent repair looks good in the photos, Most people will never know it was done...
