Wheel base on a lowered SWB 1970 GMC leaf spring truck

Hi,

I am working on a 1970 SWB GMC truck (rear leaf spring). This is my first lowered truck and I have flipped the rear axle and notched the frame with a lowered the stance 5"/3" rear/front. While centering the rear axle, I found that the wheel base is off by 3/4" (114.25"). After checking, it appears that the after market spring center pins are moved forward by ~3/4" (should be at 24" and are ~23.25'), which is where the problem is. I am about to pop the perches (not yet welded) and move the alignment hole 3/4" to compensate, but I wondered if it might be better to leave it alone. Anyone have any experience on the leaf spring flip and if moving the axle forward 3/4" is OK?

I don't have a good answer, but I'll give you a TTT.

I would think that lowering the truck would tend to increase the wheelbase? How does the driveshaft fit? What kit did you use?

I believe the WB should have not been affected by the changes. Measured another (stock) LWB 72 and it was at 128" (should be 127"). So maybe that there is a tolerance on that WB dimension +/- 1"? Decided to push the axle back 3/4" and see how it looks when I get the bed on. I am having a custom 1 piece Alu 3" shaft built now so I can easily shorten it if necessary.
