Wheel sizes......again
I have a 1971 SWB Stepside.
Doing a 4" drop in front (2 1/2" drop spindle, 1/2" spring). Rear 6" drop, all spring. Given that information, I'm looking at Wheels at the Street Rod Nationals this weekend, and would like to know what wheel size for both 17" wheels and 18" wheels. All information is greatly appreciated. Photos a plus. I'm looking a Boyd Coddington 'Junkyard Dog' wheels.

Re: Wheel sizes......again
I'll be at the Nats also and and will be looking at wheels. I've taken measurements of the rallys I'm running now, 15/7's front and 15/8's rear. They fit well with my 5/7 drop. I've got front space and back space written down for front and rear so I can compare wheel diameters and widths that'll fit. Take lots of measurements before you go. You'll be glad you did.

Re: Wheel sizes......again
17x8 front 17x9 rear. Zero offset. (That translates to 4.5" backspace front and 5" rear.) What I'm running on my '69 short step with 235 55 17 in front and 275 55 17 rear. 27" and 29" tall respectively. 4.5" front drop 7" rear. Spindles/springs in front and DJM leaf flip in rear.
I would think 18's would be same.

Re: Wheel sizes......again
Just returned from the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville where I ordered my wheels and tires for the '71. Ordered the C5 Gun Metal from COY Wheels. Working with Danny and others we decided on 17 x 8 on front with 235 x 55 R17s and 18 x 9.5 rear with 255 x 55 R18s. Besides the 4/6 drop should give me a nice wheel/rubber stagger 27.1 front and 28.6 rear.
Should get them in 2 weeks. Will post pics after.

Re: Wheel sizes......again
Got my new Lift Jack Pro setup so the 4/6 Drop project should be a lot easier:

Re: Wheel sizes......again
At the encouragement of another forum member, I contacted Coy's wheels Monday and inquired as to past issues some have had with their c5 and c57 sheels properly fitting the center hub and other issues with the valve stem etc.
They responded that indeed they had issues in the past, but primarily with aftermarket disc brake kits and the size of the hub. I will advise once I get my wheels, but have been assured they do not expect ant issues especially since my disc brakes are factory.

Re: Wheel sizes......again
Cruisinthe34, Can you tell me what back space you ordered on your front and rear wheels?
I'm leaning to using the same set up instead of 20's and 18's. Appreciate it, Phil |
