Hood Reinforcement for hood bumper?

This washer looking thing fell-off when I opened the hood today (picture). It appears to have come from left front corner of hood and would have contacted the adjustable bumper on that side. (Note I just painted underside of hood and it has paint, where it appears to have feel from now does not.) It appears to have been spot welded in a couple placed and matches location I took picture of with it. Nothing on right side of hood.

Thought I should ask here, if anyone has seen it, one of ya'all have.

You can see the spot where the center hole of it was. Do you have one on the other side of the hood, or is that one now also gone? You could probably use a similar size washer if you have one missing.

Re: Hood Reinforcement for hood bumper?

I'd say that was a shim use to help line up the hood and make it level. If your hood looks level when closed then you may not need it.

It should be easy to put some double-sided tape on it to test it out and see if using it makes a difference.

If you decide to put it back on there clean up both areas and do some rust-prevention (I like Rust Treatment from NAPA) and you could probably get by with some caulk like RTV silicon or perhaps get a MIG welder to stick it back on.

I know our trucks had shims all over the place from the factory.

Re: Hood Reinforcement for hood bumper?

It's a reinforcement washer spot welded in place to line up with the hood level adjusters mounted in the grille top rail . just mig weld it back in place ,it's function is to help take the stress of closing the hood on the adjuster and not bend the hood sheet metal .

Thanks guys kind of what I was thinking. When I have the hood off to work the HVAC a good time to put that back (hood up side down).
