painting a chassis

what do you perfer to paint a chassis with? I've thinking about por 15 or chassis saver any feedback on either or something else better to use

POR-15, before and after.

I prefer por 15 as well as that is always what I have used, holds up well and they have a great line of other products now as well.

What about epoxy priming? Sand blast, clean off sand, hit with epoxy primer?

SPI black epoxy primer as close to stock color as you can get.

X2 - I've done a few frames, I take them down to bare metal then use a 2-part epoxy primer, the last 2 frames I used PPG CRE which is an industrial primer that is chemical resistant. it is tintable. SPI (Southern Polyurethanes) has a frame paint that has what I think is the "proper" gloss but I haven't used it (probably will on the next one)
Many use POR 15 & it seams to work well, I have limited experience with it.

Now thats the ticket! I usually go this route,or blast and roughen up and hit them with chassis blackthe por is a "process" and in my expirience tends to "peel" off if one is "skipped"

I probably went a lot further than most people would but after sandblasting I went with SPI epoxy primer. Then a Nason 2K primer and cut out any rust pits. Then back over the whole frame with 400 before spraying with Summit chassis black. Turned out great and looks like a brand new frame.

I had everything black powder coated, pretty much. I threw in three shades of grey for various cast metal suspension pieces and so on. Can't beat powder, though it's not correct of course!

If you go the POR-15 route I'd recommend satin if you can get it. Much closer to the original "look" and it shows fewer defects, pits, and so on.

I have on car where they bodyworked the frame - skim coat of filler, etc, and it looks like a brand new, mint stamping. This frame was actually nice enough that I didn't need to do that, it barely had any rust at all.

Sand blasted, metal pickled, epoxy primer chassis saver satin black, and satin clear as chassis saver has no UV protection. This includes all under carriage and drive line parts.

I used por15 and then sprayed satin black over that, it looks great IMO and is fairly cheap. All in I was at about $60 in material

I like POR 15 but would like to add from my experience that it will tend to peel from smooth sanded surfaces with time. It is made to stick to light rusted or sand blasted surfaces. This was straight from one of their reps. I spoke to at Carlisle years ago.
